Workshops

This painting workshop – one or two days will explore paint application, composition, mark making and colour while looking at the themes of landscape and still life. Participants will be encouraged to explore and develop a personal direction towards one genre or explore more with Jellena’s guidance. In this workshop, you will be encouraged to utilise spontaneous and dynamic compositions as well as vibrant colour combinations. Jellena will give demonstrations as well as give participants time to practice and experiment. This workshop will inspire you to see new possibilities and personalised interpretations of everyday subjects in your art making.
These are two single day workshops. If you book for both days there is a discount. Please ensure that you book for the correct day if only doing one workshop.
Day 1 will feature tutor demonstrations and allow for participants to utilise mixed medias inc acrylic, charcoal and various ‘mediums’ to explore layering, colour mixing and traditional / non-traditional approaches to create several ‘base’ layer artworks. There will be experimenting on various surfaces, as well as recording experiments in a ‘Visual Diary’ or notebook.
Day 2 will feature tutor demonstrations and participants will use the immediate environment to draw still life and/or landscape sketches to use for second layer ‘Subject matter’. Applying various layers of charcoal/ pastel, found materials and acrylics using traditional and non-traditional applications. Include under and over painting, broken colours techniques and colour theory.
Most art materials will be provided as material cost is included in the course price. Participants will have access to various materials and equipment including various acrylic paints, canvas pads, pastels, art papers, charcoal, brushes, palette knives and other non-traditional materials.

Workshop 1: Visual journaling for Mental Health. (15 years and above)
With emphasis on practising therapeutic art skills for well-being, you will learn skills to create affirmation and gratitude cards, along with how to make original visual journal pages as you combine various art media while writing, designing and image making for mental health, using inspirational techniques and special effects adapted to your individual journaling needs.
You will come away from the workshop with visual journal strategies that you can utilise to improve your mental health.
Workshop 2: Visual Journaling Your Artistic Process. (For Beginner & Emerging Artists and Professional Artists wanting a Refresher)
Visual Journal documentation of your process stages for an original artwork will have you engaging in the key stages of recording the practical steps followed by you as an artist from inception to potential marketing of your completed artwork.
These may include finding inspiration, researching, exploration, media and composition experimentation, media choices, decision making, discarding, problem solving, development, finalisation, refining, artwork presentation, artist statement writing and artwork marketing.
Such documentation can prove very beneficial to you as an artist as not only do you have a lasting document of your creative process for an artwork, but you also have an exemplar format that you can modify or add to when doing future visual journal documentation for artworks.
This is two single day workshops, so if booking the workshop please ensure you select the correct day.
